Short version: Briefly only processes your meeting transcript to generate a summary.
We do not store, sell, or share your data with anyone. Your transcript is sent to our server,
summarized, and immediately discarded.
1. What We Collect
When you use Briefly during a Google Meet call, the extension captures the following:
- Meeting transcript text — the live captions displayed on your screen during the call
- Summary output — the AI-generated notes, action items, and follow-up email stored temporarily in your browser's local storage
We do not collect:
- Audio or video recordings
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Your Google account information
- Browsing history or activity outside of meet.google.com
- Any data when you are not in an active Google Meet call
2. How We Use Your Data
The meeting transcript is sent to our secure backend server hosted on
AWS (ap-south-1 region) solely for the purpose of generating
an AI-powered summary using the OpenAI API.
The transcript is used to:
- Identify the type of conversation (client call, standup, brainstorm, etc.)
- Generate meeting notes, action items, follow-up email, and Jira ticket suggestions
Your transcript is not stored on our servers after processing.
It is sent, summarized, and the raw transcript is immediately discarded.
Only the generated summary is returned to your browser.
3. Where Your Data Goes
Your transcript is processed through the following services:
-
Our AWS Lambda backend (ap-south-1, Mumbai) —
receives the transcript over HTTPS, calls the AI model, and returns the summary
-
OpenAI API — used to generate the meeting summary.
OpenAI's data usage policy applies to content sent via their API.
See OpenAI Privacy Policy
Your data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections at all times.
No third party other than OpenAI receives your transcript data.
4. We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data or meeting transcripts
with any third parties for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose.
Ever.
5. Data Storage & Retention
-
On our servers: Raw transcripts are not stored.
They are processed in memory and immediately discarded after the summary is generated.
-
In your browser: The generated summary is saved in Chrome's
local storage on your device so it remains accessible in the popup.
This data never leaves your browser unless you explicitly copy it.
6. How to Delete Your Data
To remove all data Briefly has stored on your device:
- Go to chrome://extensions
- Find Briefly — AI Meeting Notes
- Click Remove — this clears all local storage instantly
Since we do not store transcripts on our servers, there is nothing to delete server-side.
7. Permissions We Request
Briefly requests the following Chrome permissions and here is exactly why:
-
activeTab — to read caption text from the Google Meet page
you are currently on
-
storage — to save the generated summary in your browser
so it persists in the popup after the meeting ends
-
scripting — to inject the caption observer into the Meet page
-
meet.google.com — Briefly only activates on this domain.
It does not run on any other website.
8. Children's Privacy
Briefly is not directed at children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the
"Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension
after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
